2012 is a big deal

Attendees of Crash the GAC have always had projects to work on when they get home, but this time it’s different.

2012 marks our third year ‘Crashing’ the GAC.  This is exciting, but this year holds a special meaning beyond our community growing.  The United Nations’ has marked 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives.   Our name change from The Crash Network to The Cooperative Trust has been sparked by wanting to get involved with other cooperatives (among other reasons).

This is why this years’ Crashers will be tasked with designing new ways for credit unions to use the cooperative model to improve their business and improve their communities.  With all of the cultural momentum in the marketplace, 2012 is a huge year for credit unions. We’re sitting in the middle of a perfect storm sparked by consumers themselves. We need to collaborate and demonstrate our value now more than ever.

When our group comes to DC this March, we’ll be prepping them for the year ahead, which will be similar to The Collider.  Groups established from this year’s Crash the GAC will submit proposals and prototypes of their project along the way.  The Crasher group with the most promising initiative, chosen by a panel of judges (people like this, who we’ll announce soon), will present their concept and results at CUNA’s Community & Growth Conference in October 2012.
